Sociology at Three Rivers
Sociology is the study of people and societies and the way in which they shape people's behavior, beliefs and identities. Probably the most important thing about sociology is that it enables us to make sense of the rapidly changing world in which we live.
Changes in our world have led to a more service-oriented workforce - a workforce that must work and compete in an ever-growing global economy. Sociology offers students vital knowledge and insights that mek them valuable players in today's work world.
POSSIBLE CAREER OPTIONS
- Social services: child welfare, social work, family services, public welfare casework, race relations, community planning
- Medical sociology: substance abuse, community relations, public health, hospital casework, employee relations, medical sociology
- Criminal justice: law enforcement, criminology, parole/probation, corrections, juvenile delinquency services
- Manufacturing: employee relations, customer relations, consulting communications
- Also work in public opinion polls, labor relations, population studies and consumer research

FACULTY
Three Rivers sociology instructor Dr. Pat Judd (above, in red shirt on middle elephant) traveled to Thailand in 2006 as part of a team studying the child sex trade and trafficking of women and children in Southeast Asia. Judd was selected for the program by the Missouri Community College Association and was of only two community college faculty members on the national team participating in the study.
