THREE RIVERS INSTRUCTOR LEADS
REGIONAL HONORS BAND
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. - Three Rivers Community College instructor Buddy White was invited to be the guest clinician and director for a regional high school honors band.
White was clinician and director of this year’s Harold Lichtenegger Memorial High School Band, sponsored by the Southeast Missouri Band Directors Association. White worked with high school students from throughout the region at a daylong workshop and then directed the band in an evening concert. The workshop and concert were both hosted by the Dexter Public Schools on Saturday, March 1.
White is in his 18th year as a member of the Three Rivers music faculty. He directs the Three Rivers Symphonic Band and Jazz Band. In addition, he teaches music literature and appreciation courses and teaches private lessons. He is the director of the annual Three River Jazz Festival, held each February. White has Master of Music Education and Bachelor of Music Education degrees from Southeast Missouri State University and he serves as the College Vice President of District 10 of the Missouri Music Educators Association.
Music students from nine high schools were selected for the Honors Band. Students from Bernie, Bloomfield, Charleston, Deter, New Madrid County Central, Poplar Bluff, Puxico, Richland and Twin Rivers participated. The band is named in memory of the late Harold B. Lichtengegger, longtime band director at Puxico High School.
The Department of Music at Three Rivers Community College is a multi-faceted program with courses for both choral and instrumental students preparing to enter careers in music and music education and the general student who wishes to understand, appreciate and support music. The department sponsors a variety of concerts, recitals and programs throughout the academic year.
