THREE RIVERS STUDENT LEADERS
MEET WITH STATE LEGISLATORS


 POPLAR BLUFF - A group of student leaders at Three Rivers Community College recently participated in a legislative workshop with leaders in Missouri's state capitol.
 
 Members of the Student Government Association at Three Rivers participated in the Missouri Community College Association's Student Government Spring Conference in Jefferson City. During the conference the student leaders participated in a Mock Legislative Session on the floor of the Missouri House of Representatives, met for workshops and forums and got to know and share ideas with student leaders from other community colleges across Missouri. In addition, the Three Rivers SGA members had the opportunity to meet with legislators from Southeast Missouri, including State Senator Rob Mayer of Dexter and State Rep. Gayle Kingery of Poplar Bluff.
 
 Students participating were:
 
·    Student Government Association President Anisha LeeAnn Burton of Malden; Burton is a 2002 graduate of Malden High School and the daughter of Gwenda Burton of Malden. In addition to serving as SGA president she is a member of Phi Theta Kappa academic honorary, Marketing Management Association and Alpha Beta Gamma international business honorary. She is studying business management at Three Rivers.
·    Jennifer Cook of Jackson; Cook is a 2005 graduate of Jackson High School and is the daughter of Melanie Cook of Jackson. She is studying Information Systems Technology at Three Rivers and is a SGA representative.
·    Shane Holt of Deering; Holt is a 2005 graduate of Delta C-7 High School and is a sophomore at Three Rivers. He is the son of Connie Holt of Deering. He serves as the vice president of SGA, is a Senior Resident Assistant at Rivers Ridge student housing and has been selected as a Graduation Marshall for commencement at TRCC.
·    Keesha Treadwell of Howardville; Treadwell is a 2007 graduate of New Madrid County Central High School and is in the Three Rivers Teacher Education program studying to be a secondary level mathematics teacher. She is the daughter of Velma Treadwell of Marston and she is a SGA representative.
·    Dede Whitlow of Jackson; Whitlow is a 2007 graduate of Jackson High School and is the daughter of Dean and Susan Whitlow of Jackson. She is studying business administration at Three Rivers and is a SGA representative, a Resident Assistant at Rivers Ridge student housing, was a member of the 2008 Homecoming Court and is a member of the Rivers Ridge Community Council.
·    Terry Wilcox of Parma; Wilcox is a 1981 graduate of Malden High School and is studying Industrial Technology - Power Plant at Three Rivers. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa academic honorary, is a representative with SGA, and was named to the Dean's List.
 
 Accompanying the students to the MCCA Student Government Spring Conference was Student Government Association Advisor and the Director of Academic Advising and Retention Gina Bubanovich.
