THREE RIVERS RECEIVES RECOMMENDATION
OF CONTINUED ACCREDITATION
POPLAR BLUFF - Three Rivers Community College has received a verbal recommendation of continued accreditation from a visiting team of experts from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association Accrediting Agency.
Three Rivers President Dr. John F. Cooper announced that the team presented its verbal recommendation of continued accreditation at the conclusion of its three-day visit to the Poplar Bluff campus. The recommended continued accreditation is for 10 years, the highest level of accreditation.
"Accreditation is a 'good housekeeping seal of approval' for colleges and universities. This recommendation for continued accreditation is a reaffirmation that Three Rivers meets rigorous standards for academic quality and overall management, " Cooper said. The complete report of the Higher Learning Commission's accreditation team's visit will be sent to the college in approximately one month.
The accreditation process means that all aspects of the college have been inspected, reviewed and approved, Cooper explained. The accreditation not only is a visible signal of the strength of the college, but also proves to other colleges and universities that Three Rivers students have graduated from an approved institution.
"Accreditation is a way of assuring citizens in our region that this is, indeed, a quality college. We are proud of the work at Three Rivers, and are very appreciative of the faculty and staff at the college who assisted in the two-year self study process," Cooper said.
Steve Lewis, chairman of the Division of Humanities and Performing Arts at Three Rivers, chaired the college committee in charge of preparing for the visit from the Higher Learning Commission.
"We are very pleased to hear this news," Lewis said. "Our faculty and staff worked very hard in preparing for this visit. The findings are another indicator that our drive to provide quality, accessible and affordable education opportunities is on the right track."
