THREE RIVERS BUSINESS STUDENTS
PARTICIPATE IN STATE CONFERENCE
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. - Business students at Three Rivers Community College recently received top honors at a statewide leadership conference.
The Phi Beta Lambda business organization at Three Rivers participated in the 49th Annual Missouri Phi Beta Lambda Leadership Conference, held in Jefferson City this spring. Local Phi Beta Lambda members and chapter advisors Terri Smith and Julie Becker attended the statewide conference.
The conference featured competitive events for individuals and teams, as well as leadership training and election of state officers for the next year.
Three Rivers students recognized at the Awards Program included Deborah Cochran of Poplar Bluff, who received awards for Information Management, fifth place, and Word Processing, fourth place; Lesli Holifield of Poplar Bluff, third place in Information Management; and Elizabeth Barnett of Fisk and Lesli Holifield, who placed third in the Business Ethics team event.
The competition is part of a competitive events program sponsored annually by FBLA-PBL, an association for students pursuing business and business-related careers. More than 5,500 delegates attend the annual conference, which includes the competition in business and career skill events as well as business and leadership workshops.
Workshops sessions at the conference include "Employers - What Are They Looking For," conducted by Chester White, director of personnel at the Missouri Office of Administration, and "Becoming an Influential Leader" by Andrew McCrea of McCrea Communications. McCrea was also the keynote speaker for the conference. His keynote address was "The Three Keys to Leadership."
Future Business Leaders of America - Phi Beta Lambda Inc. is a nonprofit organization that prepares students for careers in business and business education. Its 250,000 members and advisors in 15,000 chartered chapters include students from the throughout United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, Guam, the Cayman Islands and Europe.
