THREE RIVERS GOES 'SEUSSICAL'
Local students to perform musical featuring characters from popular books
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. - Three Rivers Community College's Department of Music will present “Seussical” as its spring musical at 7 p.m., Friday, May 2 in the Tinnin Fine Arts Center on the college campus.
“Seussical,” a musical based on the works of the beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss, incorporates bits and pieces from at least 14 classic Suess books. The vocal music students in the Three Rivers Music Department will present the lively musical production.
The mischievous Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie and all the Whos of Whoville from Seuss' popular books come to life in this magical musical experience. The classic, colorful tales are seamlessly brought together by Jojo, a young boy and "thinker of strange and wonderful thinks." As each story unfolds the audience discovers how relevant and profound each of Seuss's subtle themes are, making this a musical that appeals to all ages.
“Obviously, this is a musical that the kids can truly enjoy. But it’s really for everyone, regardless of age. Anyone can appreciate a story that’s focused on believing in yourself, keeping promises and being an independent thinker,” said Cindy White, music instructor at Three Rivers and director of the musical production.
The music is a gumbo of musical styles, ranging from Latin to pop, swing to gospel, R and B and funk.
Tickets for the evening performance on Friday, May 2 are $5 per person and will be available in the TRCC Box Office prior to the show.
