The Division of Humanities and Performing Arts at Three Rivers provides courses in disciplines that not only build skills but also offer students an opportunity to explore the world of human expression. Humanities and Performing Arts opens up doors that can lead to a greater understanding of just what it means to be "human" and enrich lives. Art
Course Requirements
Three Rivers' is dedicated to providing experiences to prepare individuals for careers in art, design, art education and art history. The Art Department also emphasizes enhancing student and community understanding and appreciation of art. There are many career paths that an individual may choose in the field of Fine Arts. An associates degree in Fine Arts from Three Rivers would be transferable to most four-year universities and schools of art & design. Careers in art can include: studio art, architecture, photography, graphic design, illustration, animation, interior design, art education, art therapy, art history, gallery direction, museum curation, art conservation, product design, or even fashion design.

Course Requirements
The studio is open to students until 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is not uncommon to find students working in the studio each evening. An adjacent wood shop is available to stretch frames to make stretcher frames for painting.

English
Course Requirements
Why study English and literature? Competency in written and oral communication and in reading is a foundation for future academic success and is basic to being an effective citizen, worker and individual. The Three River English Department will help you begin your work at your own starting point, and take you where you need to be for future success.

Library Science
Course Requirements
Library science is an interdisciplinary field that applies the practices, perspectives, and tools of management, information technology, education, and other areas to libraries; the collection, organization, preservation and dissemination of information resources; and the political economy of information. Historically, library science has also included archival science. The AA degree will help students interested in Library Science transfer course credits to a four-year college or university.

Mass Communications
Course Requirements
Mass communication is the academic study of the various means by which individuals and entities relay information through mass media to large segments of the population. Graduates can achieve careers in the following fields: newspaper, magazines publishing, radio, television, film and advertising. Three Rivers Mass Communications AA degree will allow students to transfer to a four-year college or university to major in Mass Communications to obtain their goals.

Music
Course Requirements
Three Rivers' Music Department represents a wide range of opportunities for students and the community. Music provides a lens through which the whole world may be viewed, enhanced and appreciated. The Three Rivers music program can provide an excellent foundation for pursuing a four-year degree in music as well as enhance future achievements in other areas or offer a lifetime enjoyment and participating in music. Possible career options in the music field include: band/choir director, professional musician, conductor, church musician, clergy, publishing, recording, instrument sales, piano tuning, fine art institution managers, music critic/writer, etc.

Music Events at Three Rivers College

Three Rivers offers both choral and instrumental opportunities, with the Three Rivers Chorus and Swingsations vocal groups and the Three Rivers Concert Band and Jazz Band. Private instruction in both areas are also available to interested students.

Philosophy
Course Requirements
Philosophy asks deep questions about the nature of reality and our own ability to know it, as well as learn more about the human self and central concerns like morality, freedom and the foundations of Western thought and culture. Philosophy courses at Three Rivers fulfills humanities electives for the AA degree and general education programs.

Pre-Journalism
Course Requirements
The Associate of Arts degree, Pre-Journalism concentration, is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to major in Journalism. Journalists play a vital social role, conveying news and opinions on important and interesting topics. Responsibilities will include gathering information and preparing stories that inform readers or viewers about events.

Religious Studies
Course Requirements
Religious studies is the secular study of religious beliefs, behaviors, and institutions. It describes, compares, interprets, and explains religion, emphasizing systematic, historically-based, and cross-cultural perspectives. Upon completion of the Religious Studies AA degree students will be prepared to transfer to most four-year colleges or universities to major in Religious Studies.

Spanish
Course Requirements
Individuals who study foreign language at Three Rivers will find a friendly atmosphere in which to learn more about the Spanish language and culture. Students who learn Spanish will find it useful in a number of fields: education, tourism, translation, business, healthcare, journalism, editing, proofreading, churches, international relations, foreign service and careers abroad.

Speech and Theatre
Course Requirements
The Three Rivers Department of Speech and Theater will help students acquire the knowledge and skills needed in both professional and personal lives. Studies in speech will strengthen a person's ability to describe, interpret and evaluate any kind of communicative experience. Students will learn to communicate more effectively and to facilitate the communication of others.
