Testing
The Testing and Assessment Center is located in Room 209 of the E.K. Porter Distance Learning Center. The Center administers a number of different tests ranging from the ASSET placement assessment for new students to the CAAP exit assessment for TRCC graduates. A brief description of the testing services offered by the Testing and Assessment Center is listed below. For test applications, registration, and other information, students should contact the office of Testing and Assessment at (573) 840-9667 or the office of Admissions at (573) 840-9605.
ASSET Placement Assessment
Consisting of three 25-minute segments that test Writing Skills, Reading Skills, and Mathematics, ASSET is the assessment tool that TRCC uses to determine where to place entering students into the appropriate math and English classes. There is no cost for the exam, but students taking the ASSET must have been admitted to the college and paid their $20 admission fee. Students should contact the Admissions Office to register for this exam. Testing time: two hours.
CAAP Exit Assessment – MANDATORY FOR ALL GRADUATES
The College Assessment of Academic Proficiency (CAAP) is a battery of four exams in Reading, Writing, Mathematics, and Critical Thinking given to students in the semester of graduation. Each student who participates in CAAP will take two out of the four exams. Everyone takes Critical Thinking and one of the other three exams at random. Because CAAP is important in assessing the success and effectiveness of Three Rivers’ academic and vocational programs, all graduating students must participate. This testing session also includes the Student Opinion Survey, which measures the students’ level of personal satisfaction with their experience at TRCC. There is no cost for this exam. Testing time: two hours.
C-Base Exam
The College Basic Academic Subjects Exam (C-BASE) is required for all education majors in the state of Missouri. Students must pass all four sections of C-BASE: Writing/English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies for admission to a four-year degree program. C-BASE is offered in the months of January, March, June, September, and November/December. The testing fee is $50. Testing time: four hours.
CLEP Tests
The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a series of tests that students can take to earn college-equivalent credit. Trcc offers a number of different exams for credit. Please consult the college catalog for a list of current CLEP-eligible subject tests. CLEP is given on computer by appointment only. The testing fee is $15 payable to TRCC and $65 payable to CLEP. Testing time: two hours.
Correspondence Tests
Students involved in distance-learning classes can use the Testing and Assessment Center as an official exam proctor service. Students must make arrangements with their administering school to certify TRCC as their test proctor. Testing is free and by appointment only. Testing time: varies by exam.
Health Occupations Aptitude Tests
Students wishing to enter the programs for Emergency Medical Technician, Medical Laboratory Technician, or Surgical Technician must take the PSB Health Occupation Aptitude Exam. Test dates and times are scheduled by appointment through the offices of the respective academic programs. Testing fee is $15. Testing time: three hours.
NLN Nursing Pre-Admission Exam and LPN Bridge Program
Candidates for entry into the Registered Nurse program must take the NLN exam. The exam for the on-campus day program is given on the last Saturday of February. (Deadline to register for exam: February 1.) The exam for the on-campus evening program is given on the last Saturday of July. (Deadline to register for exam: July 1.) The testing fee is $35. Testing time: five hours. The exam for the LPN Bridge program in Sikeston is given on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. (Deadline to register for exam: November 1.) The testing fee: $100. Testing time: 8 hours including break. The LPN Bridge Program on campus requires the NLN/ACE exams. Testing fee: $135. Testing time: (NLN) four hours and (ACE) eight hours; administered on separate days.
GED Exam
TRCC is the official testing site for the GED high school equivalency exam. Students must apply for test admission with the state GED office in Jefferson City. There is a $20 application fee. Upon receipt of the admission form from the state, students must complete the eight-page GED Demographics Form at a local Adult Education and Literacy Center. To register to take the GED at TRCC, students must submit their state admission form, Candidates Responsibility Sheet, completed demographics form, and a $20 testing fee to the TRCC Testing Office PRIOR to the test registration deadline.
