You can complete this pathway to an associate degree:

  • Fully online
  • At the Poplar Bluff campus
  • At our locations in Dexter, Kennett, and Sikeston (through face-to-face, ITV, and online classes)

Overview

Whether you're considering a career in education, journalism, public relations, marketing, law, or business, you'll benefit from the skills and values imparted by studying the English language and literary tradition.

Three Rivers' Associate of Arts Degree, English pathway prepares students to make a seamless transition into a bachelor's degree program at a four-year college or university to major in English or a pre-professional degree. It offers an affordable way to fulfill your general education requirements, expand your knowledge of this field, and explore the specialty you want to pursue.

Three Rivers' class sizes are small, offering more personalized instruction than at a large university. The faculty hold advanced degrees in the specialties they teach.

A major in English can be good preparation for a career in teaching, writing, journalism, broadcasting, advertising, and public relations. You may also pursue continued graduate or professional training in areas such as English, law, political science/government, public administration, psychology, counseling, communications, and religious studies (i.e., seminary).

The communication and research skills taught in the English pathway are prized by employers, as is the ability to think critically and write effectively.
