You can complete this pathway to an associate degree:

  • Fully online
  • At the Poplar Bluff campus
  • At our locations in Dexter, Kennett, and Sikeston (through face-to-face, ITV, and online classes)

Overview

If you want to study the mind scientifically; explore such topics as emotions, gender, emotional development, and human behavior; and help others through difficult experiences or situations, consider studies in the field of psychology.

Psychology careers for those with a bachelor's degree include research associate, case manager, and career counselor. Professions such as school counselor, industrial psychologist, social worker, and mental health counselor require at least a master's degree. To practice as a psychologist, a doctoral degree is typically required, as well as state licensure. Specialization options include child, clinical, forensic, criminal, and sports psychology.

Three Rivers' Associate of Arts degree, Psychology pathway can be a steppingstone on your path to success in this field. This program is designed to prepare you for transfer to a baccalaureate program at a four-year university. It offers an affordable way to fulfill your general education requirements and expand your knowledge of this field. Three Rivers' class sizes are small, offering more personalized instruction than at a large university. The faculty hold advanced degrees in the specialties they teach.

Psychology programs teach a wide range of marketable skills, including research, writing, analytical skills, and an understanding of how the mind works, which are useful in careers such as public relations, management, and human resources.
