Honors Program Application

Honors Class Credit Application

Our Purpose
The purpose of honors classes is to provide an innovative, creative approach to learning in an atmosphere conducive to meeting the challenge to higher levels of academic excellence.

Dean's List
A Dean’s List will be compiled at the end of each fall and spring semester. Students who were enrolled for 12 or more semester hours and earned a GPA of 3.5 or better average will have their names listed. Students who are granted a degree with an overall grade point average of 3.5 or better will graduate with “H” (Honors). Students who graduate with an overall 3.75 grade point average or better will graduate with “HH” (Highest Honors).

Admittance Requirements
Students are admitted to the program based one of the following criteria:

National Merit Finalists and Bright Flight Scholars are admitted upon application.
•  An ACT score of 25 or ASSET scores of 48 and above.
•  Transfer students who have earned 12 credit hours with a GPA of 3.25 or higher.

Others may apply by submitting an application that includes an ACT or ASSET score, a letter of recommendation from a high school counselor or teacher, and original brief essays describing the student's academic and professional goals. An interview may be required.

Honors Credit for a Course

Students not enrolled in the honors program may choose, with instructor recommendation and with program director approval, to make application for an honors contract to earn honors status for that course.

Graduation Recognition

For purposes of the commencement ceremony and graduation program, the cumulative grade point average from the preceding semester will be used to identify honor students. However, the final cumulative grade point average will be used to determine final honors status and will be noted on the official college transcript and diploma.

The program is administered through the Division of Humanities and Performing Arts. For more information, call (573) 840-9202.
