Elizabeth “Liz” Enochs will be reading from her book, Leaving the House Unlocked, and signing copies at 10 a.m. March 5 in the Rutland Library. Elizabeth is a queer writer from southeast Missouri. More so than not, you’ll find her in the woods. Her book, Leaving the House Unlocked, is sent in the form of single-sentence prose in which she invites readers in to tour through some of her most intimate memories. Her compelling honesty allows us to explore family and personal identity as well as acknowledge parts of the past–whether good or bad–that helped shape her as an individual. Enochs also uses this collection to raise awareness on issues concerning animal welfare, environmentalism, and sexual violence. The book turns trauma into a chance for healing.
