To be eligible for the Line Technician Program, applicants must:

  • Have a valid driver’s license.
  • Place into College Writing and Mathematical Reasoning and Modeling on the ACT or ACCUPLACER placement tests (ACT scores are valid for 5 years).
  • Subject providing confidential medical history, physical examination, two negative preadmission drug screens, and a clear criminal background check.

Program Purpose

The Line Technician Program is designed to equip students with the essential skills, knowledge, and practical experience needed for a successful career in the electrical powerline industry. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of electrical distribution systems and the standards that govern the industry.

Program Outcomes

  • Students will develop a working knowledge of electrical distribution systems, their components, and industry standards.
  • Students will acquire the advanced personal skills necessary for success in entry level positions as electrical powerline technicians.
  • Students will be able to operate equipment commonly associated with powerline installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Students will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to interpret industry standards and regulations, recognize and mitigate potential hazards and respond appropriately to emergency incidents.
