In some cases, college credit may be awarded for the education received through a variety of programs, credentials, on-the-job training, tests, and more. Students should consult with their academic program manager to start the process.

Please note:

  • A minimum of 15 credit hours must be completed at Three Rivers College in order to graduate.
  • A maximum of 30 Alternative College Credits may be awarded.
  • The student must be currently enrolled in a degree or certificate program.
  • Alternative College Credit will be awarded only for those courses directly applicable to curriculum requirements of the student’s declared certificate or degree program as outlined in college publications.

Three Rivers uses several methods designed to grant alternative college credit to students with a wide variety of educational experiences. Students should consult with the appropriate program manager regarding the use of alternative college credit in their educational planning. Three Rivers awards the following types of alternative college credit.

  • Standardized Tests (CLEP, AP, IB, DSST)
  • Credit for Prior Learning: Industry Credentials
  • Military Training
  • Articulation Agreements between Three Rivers College and area High Schools or Career and Technical Centers.

Types of Alternative College Credit

Standardized Tests (CLEP, AP, IB, DSST)

  • Students who take a CLEP, AP, IB, or DSST may receive alternative college credit.
  • Credit for standardized tests is awarded according to the charts listed in the Alternative College Credit Guide.
  • Students should send their official score report to the Office of the Registrar.

Credit for Prior Learning: Industry Credentials

  • Credit for Prior Learning may be awarded to Three Rivers College students who have completed training, earned certifications, or obtained licenses.
  • Credit for industry credentials is awarded according to the charts listed in the Alternative College Credit Guide.
  • Students must submit industry certifications to the appropriate program manager.

Military Training

  • Credit for Prior Learning may be awarded to Three Rivers College students who have completed military training.
  • Students must send JST transcripts to the TRC Veteran School Certifying Official.
  • The Veteran School Certifying Officer will review the JST and forward to the appropriate program manager if there is applicable credit.
