The Lady Raiders (28-0) will play at 2 p.m. March 17 in Lubbock, Texas, against the winner of 16 seed Chipola vs. 17 seed Tyler.
After wrapping up its regular season February 19 with a 66-52 win at Jefferson, Three Rivers faced the Lady Vikings for a fourth time this season in the semifinals of the Region XVI tournament and won 97-47 on Friday. Autumn Dodd, a Neelyville graduate, led Three Rivers with 19 points, seven rebounds, six steals, and five assists.
In Saturday’s championship game against Moberly Area, the Lady Raiders led by four points heading into the fourth quarter and pulled away late to win 81-73. Region XVI Player of the Year Myia Yelder got a steal and a 3-pointer to put Three Rivers ahead by 12 points late in the game. Yelder led the team with 20 points, five assists, and five steals.
Yelder, Dodd, and Joi Montgomery earned first-team All-Region XVI honors, while Ari Winston, Jenna McMillen, and Karlee Holland earned second-team All-Region XVI honors. Three Rivers Coach Alex Wiggs was named region Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.
“We’re definitely excited after last year’s final four run. I feel like we can take that next step,” Wiggs said. “(Earning coach of the year) is a great recognition. I sincerely believe Coach of the Year goes to the coach with the best team, and I wouldn’t have any of those accomplishments without such a great team, coaching staff, and support system.”
Yelder, who was a third-team All-American last year after Three Rivers reached the final four for the first time in program history, leads Three Rivers with 17.5 points per game along with 5.2 assists, 3.3 steals, and 3.2 rebounds. Dodd averages 11.7 points, 3.6 steals, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists. McMillen, a true freshman, has come off the bench in all but one game and averages 11.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.3 steals. Montgomery leads Three Rivers with 7.9 rebounds a game and averages 10.5 points, 2.1 assists, and 1.8 steals.
“We’ve got kids who can step up and play if someone isn’t having a great game. It goes to show the depth of the team and how strong we are throughout the roster,” Wiggs said.
