Three Rivers College invites students, faculty, staff, and community members to explore Gaming through four events during this year’s Liberal Arts Week.
Daniel Atwood will be “Reimagining Medieval Music today: Musicians in Skyrim and Other Fantasy Games” at noon on April 17 in room 108 of the Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise Center. The presentation will be about representations of medieval minstrels and lute music in recent fantasy role-playing games. In addition, he may discuss orientalism in the soundtracks of desert levels in platform games such as Super Mario.
Alex Jameson will present “Supporting: A View from the Competitive League of Legends Circuit” at noon on April 18 in room 108 of the Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise Center. This discussion will expose attendees to video game players in our community. Jameson will discuss his time playing on the professional League of Legends circuit from 2012-13.
Members of the Three Rivers College Esports team will have an Esports Arena Open House at noon on April 19 in room 112 of the Harry L. Crisp II Technology Center. This social event will highlight the team’s Esports Arena, which will be open for students to meet members of the Esports Team, see the Esports Arena, and play video games with team members or other TRC students. The Esports Team will provide refreshments.
The English Department’s annual Poetry Slam will be from 6-8 p.m. April 20 in room 108 of the Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise Center. This community event is held to commemorate National Poetry Month and Shakespeare’s death (April 23). Students, faculty, staff, and members of the community are invited to share poetry. The 2023 Confluence will be distributed during the break. The English Department will provide refreshments.
