Three Rivers College is proud to announce the purchase of a classroom ambulance simulator, known as a “Simulance,” made possible through a recent enhancement grant. This innovative addition significantly strengthens the College’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program by providing students with hands-on, real-world training in a safe and controlled environment.
The Simulance is a fully outfitted ambulance simulator designed to replicate the interior layout, equipment, and working conditions of a functioning emergency vehicle. The unit allows EMS students to practice patient assessment, treatment, communication, and transport procedures in scenarios that mirror real-life emergency responses.
“This enhancement grant has allowed us to bring the field into the classroom,” said Tami Cunningham, Director of EMS and Fire Science at Three Rivers College. “The Simulance gives our students the opportunity to train in an environment that closely resembles what they will experience on the job. It bridges the gap between textbook learning and real-world application.”
Instructors can create high-pressure scenarios that help students develop critical thinking, teamwork, and decision-making skills. One of the most significant advantages of the Simulance is the ability to pause, reset, and repeat scenarios for instructional purposes.
“The safety of our students and the patients they will one day serve is our top priority,” Cunningham said. “By investing in advanced simulation technology, we are ensuring our graduates are better prepared, more confident, and ready to meet the demands of today’s emergency medical services.”
The addition of the Simulance also supports Three Rivers College’s commitment to workforce development in the region. As the demand for skilled EMS professionals continues to grow, enhanced training resources help ensure that local communities receive high-quality emergency care from well-prepared providers.
