Center Stage will perform the fast-paced comedy “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged” at 7 p.m. July 19-21 and 2 p.m. July 22 at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center at Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff. Tickets are $10/$5 with TRC ID and are available at the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce and the Three Rivers Student Accounts Office. Tickets also will be sold at the door.
“The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged,” written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield, is a wacky interpretation of the Bard. All of Shakespeare’s plays are comically squeezed into one frenzied and funny performance. This includes a rapping Othello, a Romeo & Juliet parody, and a minute version of Hamlet.
“If you love Shakespeare, this is the play for you! If you hate Shakespeare, this is the play for you! If you don’t know Shakespeare from Shinola, this is the play for you!” said Dr. Michael Malone, guest director for this Center Stage production. Center Stage is Three Rivers’ blended theater company that includes students, college employees, and community members.
Malone has been an adjunct instructor in TRC’s Information Technology Specialist Program for three years and works full time for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Malone is active in Poplar Bluff’s theater scene. He appeared in “Oklahoma!,” “Tuesdays with Morrie,” “The Boys Next Door,” and “The Foreigner” for Center Stage. With The Stage Company, he appeared in ‘Chicago,” “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” “Inherit the Wind,” “The Fantasticks,” and many others. He has directed productions, including “Godspell” and “The Mousetrap.”
The cast for “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged” includes Michael Joseph, Brett Russell, Ryan, Humphrey, and Austin Sopko.
