The Three Rivers College Art Department is pleased to announce that Rose Anne Barbour Huck, an award-winning landscape artist working and living in the Poplar Bluff area, will be the featured artist at the Tinnin Center Art Gallery January 12 to February 22, 2019. An opening reception will be held January 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the lobby of the Tinnin Fine Arts Center. The event is open to the public and free of charge. Light refreshments will be served.
THE CREEKSIDE STUDIO OF ART & DESIGN
Huck is a professional artist focusing on landscape paintings in acrylics on stretched canvas created from her studio, The Creekside Studio of Art & Design. Her inspiration comes from the farm on Ten Mile Creek where she lives with her three dogs, Lila, Bandit, and Sophie, as well as a phantom cat, Oliver. “The creek and the hills surrounding the valley provide endless opportunities for landscape subject matter,” commented Huck in a recent interview. Artistic influences include the French Impressionist movement and the Hudson River School of artists working in New York State in the mid-19th century.
In June of 2018, Huck visited Santa Fe, New Mexico, with her sister, Janie Barbour Walters. This trip provided new opportunities for landscape inspiration in a very different setting. Some of the most recently created pieces of art are from this trip. The largest piece of the exhibit shows the Rio Grande River, where it runs along New Mexico State Highway 68, between Santa Fe and Taos. The mountains and rugged terrain shown in the painting are typical of the area.
ARTIST TALK
A brief talk about the artwork and Huck’s creative process will be presented at the reception, with a full lecture to be presented on January 25 in Room 108 of the Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise Center. “One of my primary goals is to create art which can provide a peaceful retreat and a soothing influence for those who view it,” Huck said.
During most of August of 2018, Huck, along with other local artists, worked with master watercolorist Paul Jackson on the “River Dreams” mural for the Tinnin Fine Arts Center Gallery exterior wall. Huck was the featured artist in a solo exhibit at the Margaret Harwell Art Museum in February and March of 2018.
EDUCATION
Huck is a graduate of Poplar Bluff High School. The University of Missouri, Columbia; Kansas University, Lawrence; and Central Missouri State University at Warrensburg are where Huck received bachelor’s degrees in Art as well as Advertising and Editorial Design, and K-12 certification as an art teacher.
The Margaret Harwell Art Museum (MHAM) has hosted classes where Huck has taught watercolor and acrylic painting. In 2013, she taught community outreach classes in marketing through Three Rivers College. While living in Marshall, Missouri, Huck taught Adobe Photoshop and drawing classes through a community education program.
