Sikeston LPN-RN Bridge nursing student Christian Baker recently received the Peggy Jepsen Memorial scholarship.

The award was given from donations in memory of Mrs. Jepsen, an LPN with more than 50 years of licensing, who passed away in March. Mrs. Jepsen graduated high school in 1962 and then enrolled in nursing school at the Poplar Bluff School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1963 as an LPN. She worked in several states, but locally, worked at Missouri Delta Medical Center, for Dr. Waltrip, and with several local nursing centers.

Baker, who will graduate this month, will use the funds to assist with licensing and other fees following commencement.

Jepsen’s husband, Jim, of Charleston, requested contributions come to the Sikeston nursing student following her passing. He stated that his late wife had such a love and dedication to nursing, he wanted to help another student in her honor.

Also while making the scholarship presentation, Jepsen presented the staff with his late wife’s certificate marking 50 years as an LPN, along with the letter than accompanied it.

“I hope this will show an incentive to some of your students,” he said.

Michelle Hall, MSN RN CNE and coordinator and nursing instructor for the Sikeston program, said she was honored to receive this “very special” memento, and plans to display it in the reception area at nursing office.
