The Three Rivers College Championship College Rodeo held October 3-5, 2019, recently received the honor of being named 2019-2020 Rodeo of the Year by members of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association’s Ozark Region.
The rodeo, which was held by Three Rivers College and the Sikeston Jaycees at the Art Saunders Arena at the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo grounds, was presented by Sterling Pharmacy and Sikeston Convalescent Center.
Rodeo coaches, team delegates, and students rated each rodeo in the region based on the criteria of professionalism of the event, how smoothly the rodeo was executed, the quality of the stock, and the production of the event—crowd engagement, music, clowns, activities for children, and the overall entertainment factor.
“This is such a prestigious award and we couldn’t be more honored to receive it,” said Three Rivers rodeo coach Chad Phipps. Months of hard work and planning go into creating a successful rodeo, according to Phipps.
“The Jaycees did a lot of behind the scenes work and they came out every night of the rodeo,” said Phipps. “I can’t thank them enough for everything they do every year to make this a great rodeo not only our students, but students throughout the Ozark Region.”
Phipps said that this honor has been a great reward to the students on the rodeo team. “Our students put a lot of work into the rodeo during the weeks leading up to the event and during the actual rodeo itself.”
Phipps also thanked Three Rivers staff members Janine Heath, Executive Assistant to the President, and Michelle Reynolds, Director of Development, for their helping in planning the event and for their work behind the scenes to help make it so successful.
The 2020 Three Rivers Championship College Rodeo will be held October 15-17, at the Art Saunders Arena at the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo grounds.
