Three Rivers College nursing students assist in historic COVID-19 vaccination event

Twenty-two fourth-semester Three Rivers College nursing students and eight faculty members participated in Missouri’s first mass COVID-19 vaccination event on January 22, 2021.

Three Rivers College was requested by the Butler County Health Department and Missouri National Guard to assist in the event. The Director of Public Safety, Chuck Stratton, and Department Chair for Nursing and Allied Health, Dr. Staci Foster, worked together to prepare to assist with the massive event.

“Our students and instructors were all very excited to be a part of the state’s first mass COVID-19 vaccination event,” said Foster. “It was a great learning experience for the students.”

This drive-through clinic event was a test run for the National Guard, which plans to implement similar events across the state.

The Three Rivers College Nursing program will be on hand to assist with events scheduled for February 5 in Pemiscot County and again on February 12 in Butler County.

“We work hard to provide our students with real-world experiences like these,” said Foster. “Not only giving the vaccinations, but interviewing and interacting with the clients is invaluable in preparing them for their nursing careers.”

For those who would like to become a registered nurse, two deadlines are approaching at Three Rivers College. The application deadlines for the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Day Program (RN) and the Evening LPN-RN Bridge Program are both March 1. Application forms for the Nursing programs can be found online at trcc.edu/admissions/application. Prospective students must also complete a free Three Rivers application.
