Tests Offered Through Three Rivers

Accuplacer Test (Placement Test)

Three Rivers College accepts placement scores from ACT, SAT, or Accuplacer writing and reading tests taken within the last five years. Previous college credits may be used instead of test results. Please submit college transcripts to the Office of the Registrar to determine if your previous credits maybe be used instead of test results. If you are not submitting college transcripts, or if you have not taken one of these placement tests in the past five years, you will need to take the Accuplacer with us.

The Accuplacer test is designed to test essay writing capability, reading comprehension, and math skills. The writing section allows 50 minutes to write a 300–500-word essay from the moment typing begins. The reading and math sections are not timed, but each typically takes 20-45 minutes to complete. Free practice tests and other resources are available.

To take the Accuplacer test in-person:

  1. Contact TRC in one of the following ways:

    • Register online to choose a prescheduled date for the Poplar Bluff campus.
  2. Show up and bring your valid photo ID.

To take the Accuplacer online:

  1. Be sure that you have the right system requirements. Review the Examity Technical Success document before you get started.
    • You MUST use a desktop computer, Chromebook, or laptop. This test cannot be completed on a mobile device or tablet.
    • You MUST have a webcam and microphone.
    • You MUST have reliable, high-speed internet.
  2. Read through the Test Takers Guide.
  3. Register to take the Accuplacer online.
  4. Receive an email from Accuplacer with instructions and a voucher code, one to two business days later. This code will expire seven days after you receive the email.
  5. Click on the link in the email and create an account with Examity. Examity will send a confirmation email with login credentials.
  6. Log in and set up your profile on Examity.
  7. Schedule your exam for now or later using the voucher code from Accuplacer.
  8. Start the exam immediately or log in at your scheduled time and click “Start Exam.” Follow the on-screen prompts to complete your exam. Note: Have your valid photo ID ready at the time you plan to take the exam.

Cost & Requirements

  • The first attempt in-person or online is FREE.
  • For continuous attempts when taking it in-person, the charge is $10 per section, unless proof of remediation is provided.
  • Proof of remediation can be obtained by doing the free practice tests and must show a minimum of 80% achieved in the subject area to be re-tested.
  • For continuous attempts online, the charge is $30 for each attempt.
  • A valid photo ID is required to take the Accuplacer both in-person and online.

Other Institutions
Three Rivers will NOT send Accuplacer scores to another institution. Three Rivers will accept Next Generation Accuplacer Reading and WritePlacer test scores from another institution. Other institutions may set up the candidate for a remote test and use Three Rivers as the test location. A proctor fee will be required prior to testing for another institution. If a student is planning to attend Three Rivers, but currently lives outside our area, please contact Testing Services at 573-840-9667 for more information about scheduling your test.

Candidates taking certification exams are NOT required to pay the Three Rivers proctoring fee.

CLEP Exams

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a series of exams students can take to earn college-equivalent credit. Three Rivers offers a number of different exams for credit. Please consult the College catalog for a list of current CLEP-eligible subject exams. CLEP is given on computer by appointment only. These are 1.5-hour exams. All CLEP exam fees must be paid by the candidate online through the CLEP Account Portal link above. Candidates must also pay the proctor fee prior to scheduling the appointment.

We’re excited to announce that at-home CLEP® exams with remote proctoring are now available. Remote proctoring allows students to take an exam online while a human proctor monitors them via video.

At-home exams will be administered by Proctortrack, CLEP’s remote proctoring partner that specializes in verifying the identity of online test takers while detecting and deterring academic misconduct. Proctortrack will serve as the sole provider of remote-proctored CLEP exams to ensure consistency in registration, scheduling, and administration in a secure online environment.

Equipment and Environment
Students must have a PC computer or laptop (no Macs), an internal/external speaker and microphone, a camera, and, if taking notes during the exam, a white board with a dry erase marker or one sheet of paper in a transparent sheet protector with a dry erase marker. They must also be alone in a private room.

Proctored correspondence exams for other institutions are done through Testing Services by appointment only. Candidates must pay the proctor fee prior to scheduling the appointment. Students attending a Missouri Community College do not have to pay the proctor fee.

Registration Instructions for 2024-25 Online Remote Testing

The HESI A2 RN Entrance Exam is designed to assess a student’s academic and personal readiness for higher education in a healthcare-related field, such as nursing.

The test is an internet-based, timed, multiple-choice test evaluating knowledge in the following content areas:

  • Reading Comprehension – Provides reading scenarios in order to measure reading comprehension, identifying the main idea, finding meaning of words in context, passage comprehension, making logical inferences, etc.
  • Grammar – Contains basic grammar, including parts of speech, important terms and their uses in grammar, commonly occurring grammatical errors, etc.
  • Vocabulary and Knowledge – Contains vocabulary terms that are used commonly in both general spoken English and in the healthcare fields.
  • Math – Focuses on math skills needed for healthcare fields, including basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, decimals, ratios and proportions, household measurements, general math facts, etc.

Applicants have only two attempts to take the HESI A2 RN Entrance Exam each application window.

HESI LPN-ADN and EMS-ADN Entrance Exams

If you are applying to Three Rivers LPN-RN Bridge program, you must first take the HESI A2 RN Entrance Exam and passed with a minimum composite score of 75%. The Testing Coordinator will then provide instructions for registering and paying the test and proctoring fees for either the LPN-ADN Exam or the EMS-ADN Exam.

The HESI LPN-ADN Entrance Exam is a 75-item comprehensive exam designed to be taken by currently Licensed Practical/Vocational nurses seeking entrance into an Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program. The exam identifies strengths in PN/VN content areas, and the possible need for remediation prior to entrance into an ADN program.

This exam measures competencies across PN/VN content areas, including:

  • Fundamentals
  • Pediatric Nursing
  • Maternity
  • Professional Issues
  • Medical-Surgical
  • Psychiatric/Mental Illness

The HESI EMS-ADN Entrance Exam is a 50-item exam designed to be used as an exam for Paramedics seeking entrance into an Associate Degree Nursing ADN program. The exam identifies strengths and weaknesses in ADN content areas and the possible need for remediation prior to entrance into an ADN program.

It measures competencies across basic nursing content areas, including:

  • Fundamentals
  • Physical Assessment
  • Medical Surgical
  • Maternity
  • Pediatrics
  • Pharmacology
  • Psychiatric

HESI LPN-ADN applicants have two attempts to take the exam and HESI EMS-ADN applicants have one attempt to take the exam in each application window.

HiSET® Exam (Previously GED)

Payment Process:

HiSET Exam at Home: Learn more about taking the HiSET test from home on your own computer (restrictions apply) follow the link above. Availability is 15 hours a day, seven days a week.

The HiSET® exam is a comprehensive online high school equivalency test. It is accepted anywhere in the country. The entire exam or any number of individual subject areas may be taken in one sitting, but only three attempts are allowed for each subject in a calendar year. Scores will appear on the screen immediately upon completion of each subject, except for the written portion. There is no waiting period between dates. Test time is 5 to 7 hours for the entire test (5 subtests). A valid Missouri photo ID is required to take the test, and there is a 24-hour deadline prior to test date to register. To request your official HiSET transcript go to Diploma Sender. You will be required to create an account to order the transcript. Transcripts can be sent electronically to any college or another third party. There is a fee for the transcript that is paid to Diploma Sender.

The purpose of the Praxis exam is to assess whether the entry-level teacher has the content knowledge that is necessary at the time of entry to the profession. Education majors will take the Praxis exam for teacher certification. Please register online through the website above. You will create an account, select your test, and pay online. Please print and bring your admission ticket with you on test day.

TEAS Exams – Allied Health Programs

There are now two different ways to take the TEAS exam. For the in-person exam at Poplar Bluff TRC, see the registration instructions below. For the remote online proctored test, you will take the test on your computer or laptop anytime (24/7), whenever it is convenient for you. When prompted to select between the in-person or remote test option, choose remote. The proctor services will be ATI.

Registration Instructions for 2024 Poplar Bluff and Sikeston Testing

The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is a computer-based exam that is required for admission into the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Practical Nurse (PN), Surgical Technology, and Paramedic programs. This is a computer-based diagnostic instrument that assists health occupations education programs evaluate academic aptitude, learning styles, and test-taking skills of new applicants to their programs. The TEAS is a four-part assessment with subtests in reading (28%), mathematics (20%), science (32%), and English and language usage (20%). Official score reports are available immediately after the test administration. The total testing time is four hours.
